The Hockey team of Club an der Alster is known for their competitive standards and several National and International achievements. However, media exposure is limited. Not matching with the accolades and charisma of its members.
The idea was to reveal something original. Unseen. To show the human side and some team routines through a rare ‘behind the scenes’ footage. All of that during the decisive weekend of the German National Championship..
How was the process of creation?
There were different layers.
Firstly, the Analogue Lens – the shooting process and the different ‘experience’ of an analogue capture when compared to a digital one.
Secondly, the players in the photographer role. Truly intimate access.
Lastly, the focus on everything but what happens inside the playing field. Away from the typical ‘action photos’.
What inspired this project?
The team and surrounding entourage openness to reveal more about their experience.
The ‘on the road’ and ‘matchday’ lifestyle. Their standards and commitment to the sport. The unspoken hours spent together. Real friendships built around team camaraderie.
Golden jewellery. Grooming and the make-up. Locker rooms. Hotel lobbies and rooms…
